M.Sc. Davide Mapelli
Background
Davide Mapelli completed his Bachelor’s degree in Physics at the University of Milan, where he learned the foundations of Statistical Physics and Monte Carlo simulations. He then pursued a Master’s degree in Physics at Heidelberg University, deepening his understanding of Statistical Field Theory, Pattern Formation and Stochastic Dynamics. For his Master’s thesis, he investigated the probability density function of the eigenvalues of the momentum-momentum autocorrelation matrix arising in a kinetic field theory describing the formation of large-scale structures in the Universe.
Research project
In 2024, Davide joined the Emmy-Noether Group for Dispersed Multiphase Flows at the Chair of Mechanical Process Engineering in Magdeburg. As a part of the Collaborative Research Center CRC/SFB 287 Bulk Reaction: https://bulk-reaction.de/, his goal is to incorporate small-scale gas-particle thermochemical heterogeneities into DEM-CFD models of reacting granular assemblies using probability density function (PDF) methods.
